Natural music… An early version of what you’ll call freak folk later and one of the best Bands from the 60s in my opinion. They bursted the bonds of the folk genre with influences and instruments from all over the world (Sitar & tablas, diverse flutes etc.) and with an extreme conflation of folk and psychedelic, without basing their music on rock. That new cosmopolitan attitude was not always accepted and they made themselves not only friends, especially not in the singer songwriter dominated folk scene. But from a today’s point of view there’s no question: The Incredible String Band released one of the most atmospheric, natural, beautiful and mysterious albums ever with The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter. It’s an artistic and extraordinary work no one should miss!
